Well the good thing is that I re-installed FSX on my SSD and now it loads up in 19 seconds :D

Even though I can't enjoy DCS to its full extent right now, I'd like to share a pretty cool video to watch with Virtual Desktop in Dome projection: 360° POV flying with the Blue Angels. Amazing experience.

I watched it on my android note 3 and you can move the phone and the view changes ! Really cool :)

I'd love any form of SSD. Are the benefits really worth it ? Is it just quicker load times ?

Faster load, faster access to data, probably speeds up disk-hungry apps and games. Also, more durable than regular hard drives, I suppose. I've burned a few regular ones back in the days when "backup" wasn't in my dictionary yet. I suffered for that.

The DCS update broke it for me as well. Come on hot-hot fix! :D

And Tony, SSDs are nice. Not essential but you will notice a difference. You won't get frame rate increases but will minimize scenery load times.

Guys after a lot of head scratching and searches bringing up nothing I read somewhere that Multiplayer still worked on Steam. And lo and behold it does. Can you guys try and confirm please :)

Dunno about the multiplayer with DCS, but I setup a Teamspeak server for DCS if everyone wants to use it:

derekspeare.typefrag.com:9045

I can't recall if I put a password on it, but if I did it would be "dsdftw" (no quotes).

As far as SSD's go, I can say now that since I have FSX on one that micro-jitter-stutter business when flying is gone. There are a lot of benefits to a SSD over a platter drive, all of which related to load times/access times, etc.

From DCS forums =
Just a tip for anyone experiencing crashes with the Rift.

I can only speculate about the bug causing the crashes but I do know
if there is only one aircraft slot in a mission (and it is the designated as player) then you try to spawn straight into the cockpit BUT this seems to cause a crash.
if you add a second aircraft (as a client) to the mission then when you run the mission you initialise outside the cockpit with a world view and the slot menu and when choose to spawn into the aircraft you do not crash.
if you have CA and add a CA slot to the mission this is also true; when you run the mission you initialise outside the cockpit with a world view and the slot menu , and when you choose to spawn into the aircraft you do not crash.

Basically setup the mission to initialise with a world view instead of straight into the cockpit in VR. (You will have to edit MOST missions to temporarily fix them or wait for ED to fix the bug)

Will check tonight if I get time :)
