Xpalne11+FI setting recommendation

Postby Ayousry » Mon Jan 02, 2017 10:06 am

Hi all,

I just recieved my CV1 today , amazing experience in DCS but unfortuntaly
Not in xp11 , am sure am doing something wrong with the settings though

I am very confused on what to set in XPLANE vs FI vs nvidia control panel settings
To get max res and least shimmering

Can someone help pls, what is the recommended settings for my specs?!

With almost hi settings, timewrap off ,3048 res and 4x msaa i get 35/90 fps, i dont know if that is enough for vr?!

your specs look top notch.
how much fps do you get?

p.s.
it is advisable to put the specs in the signature.

It depends on the settings , out of vr at 1080p with everything maxed except reflections min and hdr 8x
In the demo area i get from 35-50fps , most of the time 40

But in vr its very variable some settings 57/90 and some 20/90
I still dont understand vr and looking for help with the most common
Settings.

Hello,

That's a nice rig. All bets are off for VR really, especially with the current build of FI for XP11. Here' s what I've done to achieve 'smooth' FPS with the best visuals possible.

AA: low
Textures: Max
Visual HDR (not max)
Low reflections

I get between 20 - 26 FPS (however it seems a lot smoother!). You will have to experiment a little with the Fly Inside settings for resolution, it takes a little while however I eventually found a good compromise. You will find with these kind of games, you won't be able to max everything out if you want to run VR even with an outstanding systems. You mentioned DCS World in your post, I also love DCS world, however even with the native support that it offers, you have to hike down the settings. Hopefully XP-11 will get native support like DCS world which could improve performance.

Just one note, just make sure you've turn off multi-thread optimization in the Nvidia control panel, that make a huge difference to X plane (even if just playing in 2D). I've played DCS worlds since and doesn't make any difference to that just in case you forget to switch it back on after you've done with XP.

The only issues I've found with FI for XP-11 is the white and black screening and crashes (quite fundamental really!) after 30-40 minutes playing. Which is why at the moment I'm only practicing approaches, I can't risk full flights which is disappointing. If FI for XP-11 becomes as stable as DCS World, they're really on to a winner.

Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up bro

In 2D thread optimization was better on auto ,i dont know for
VR though ,ill try it when i reach home .

Also very strange ASW make things much worse!!!
Maybe if i turned threaded optimization off it will help?!

Do u set AA inside xp to 4x or what?!

Thanks again

I did extensive testing in this thread with results viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3930

Basically for my system, which is similar to yours, i now get about 26 fps worst case.. an average of around 30-32 though. I max it out at 2880 res with AA set to 4X in Xplane.. i tried 3840 with 4x, but it would drop into the low 20s and not smooth at all. I found the nice intermediate is 2880 at 4x in the sim.. i dont do much with nvidia.. AA makes no difference if HDR is on, which for me has to be. 3840 would be ideal (with 4x) but its just not there yet perf. wise. I have the AA in FI set to 8x and FFAA off (1 vs 8 in the FI makes no real difference that i can see) and thread optimization made no difference either, at least for me.

So for now, things are "adequate".. i still see a bit of shimmering with buildings that are on the runway etc.. 3840 will help that, once (hopefully) if xp can fix performance.

Thanks for the info though , ill give it a try

Where are you all getting your in-session fps from?

I know where to find the FlyInside frame rates outside of the simulation, but where do you see them as you run?

Go into settings and across the top look for Data Output. Click on that and the first line will sat frame rates. Tick the first box for show in cockpit and voila ;)

Found it. Thanks. It only shows on the monitor and not in the Rift, but OK.

I also discovered FRAPS, http://www.fraps.com/, which I think I like a little better for just fps. It displays in larger numbers, also on the monitor, but I can see it better if I sneak a peek through a little nose opening.
