I gotta say, after doing a fresh install of PB5, then re-installing flyinside (using same ini files).. and trying this suggestion (and restarting the sim).. its not bad, at least for some areas.. i suspect heavy building areas like NYCX will look mighty shimmery (still have to redo the install on that)..
I have the payware cybd bella installed.. and ive gone from 30 fps (with xenviro running) to now 46 (37-46 on average).. and this is at 3840 resolution not 2880 as before.. left FI at 8x, turned off reflections (sadly for now) (well to the minimum), then set AA to NONE in the sim.. restarted and i have this frame rate.. slightly higher if 2880 (maybe 50).. i'm having xenviro issues.. weather not loading and such, i did notice though, it seemed to drop to around 32 when i turned on xenviro (but it still shows CLEAR skies even when it should be overcast, odd, FI glitch?).. though a 2d test went from 58 to 50 (overcast 90%).. more testing needed there.. in vr it seems like xenviro doesnt always load up the weather/clouds, but in 2D it seems to..
Ill try more building areas later to see if i can "stand" the shimmer that i thought i experienced before.
I can also apply these two lines in a LUA script if need be, to gain back 10 fps: (edit, i dont seem to be gaining with this one now, maybe only if AA was enabled in the sim, unsure, edit: it was because it was overcast, the lines below on a sunny day will gain about 6-8 fps for me, killing shadows)
set("sim/private/controls/caps/use_csm", 0.000000)
set("sim/private/controls/perf/disable_shadow_prep", 1.000000)
edit: on the xenviro thing.. odd.. as someone mentioned in the xenviro thread, there is a trick to make it go from clear to clouds, minimize the window then maximize.. they are there.. 46 to 28 fps overcast, however, that weird masking thing occurs.. i'm on rift, so i dont know of a workaround like for the vive
Version 1.04 solved the no clouds issue with xenviro:
leaving cloud settings at optimal is a killer though.. went from 46 on average at cybd (3840 with AA off in sim, 8x in FI) to 23.. (detailed range at 30 km).. set to 17km, i can hit 30
