New PC build - question regarding FI memory usage in x-plane

Postby Rift Flyer » Sat Jan 21, 2017 7:23 pm

I haven't been on in a while as my system had a ram module fail. Rather than replace it with outdated ddr3 I'm planning an upgrade.

I have an Asus ROG Apex on order along with a 7700k. I will be overclocking to ~5ghz. I'm currently debating ram options. Is flyinside doing anything under the hood which would require more system memory in VR than default x-plane in desktop mode? Budget constraints mean I can go with 16gb @ 4000mhz or 32gb @ 3000mhz. The overclocking motherboard I've chosen has only two dimm slots so it's not a case of being able to add two more sticks later on. I need to get it right first time. The question is quantity or more speed.

Anybody got any advise?

VR: Oculus Rift CV1 | Oculus Touch | Leap
Primary HID: Komodo Simulations cyclic, C-Tek anti torque pedals and collective

Hi mate, wondered where you'd gone :) my recommendations are to get a program to monitor your ram usage, you'll be surprised how little you use. If you can afford the 32 then go for it but imo 16gb is more than enough ;)
