Haha, yes! I meant to post about this yesterday.
I saw the beta mentioned on reddit or twitter a couple of weeks ago, signed up and thought nothing more of it until I received my invite yesterday. It's a closed beta but I've not seen any kind of NDA so here goes..
Obviously it's based on the Red Bull air racing sports events (If you're not familiar, google it. Pure aerobatic lunacy!) It's definitely a game more than a simulator but that said flight controls work properly (pitch, roll, yaw, throttle) and the default view is from the (nicely modeled) cockpit. So far I've only flown a basic Cessna aerobat type trainer. Graphics are beautiful and game play in VR is very smooth. It's just a matter of following a line around the track, kind of like most racing games give you a line on the track these days. The main issues I've encountered so far are with the UI in VR, not unlike the issues with other games when VR was first implemented really! Fingers crossed they will iron this out and continue support.
It looks to me like it will be a free game with lots of advertising (there are place holder ads in the beta) and the dreaded 'in game purchases' but to me that doesn't matter much to me if it's going to be a fun casual game. It's multiplayer/competitive too perhaps some of you guys will join me when it moves to open beta, in the meantime I will ask in the forums if it's possible to get any more keys.
Cheers,
Bruce
